Text | This test will check that synaptic can be started via terminal
- Open a terminal
- The terminal launches. If the terminal does NOT start, see the test for your terminal to file a bug against it.
- Write "synaptic" in terminal and hit enter.
- A window opens, showing that you open synaptic without administrator privileges
- Click on "Close"
- A window opens, showing a "Quick Introduction"
- Click on "Close"
- The window closes. The synaptic package manager is already open
- Click on the "X" of the window to close Synaptic.
- The window closes
- Back in terminal, write "sudo synaptic" and hit enter
- The terminal shows "[sudo] password for USER:", where USER is your username
- Enter your password and hit enter
- A window opens, showing a "Quick Introduction"
- Click on "Close"
- The window closes. The synaptic package manager is already open
- Click on the "X" of the window to close Synaptic.
- The window closes
This test will check that synaptic can be started via menu
- Open Synaptic Package Manager from your menu
- A window opens, asking for authentication for privileges.
- Enter your password and click on "Authenticate"
- The synaptic package manager opens in a new window
This test will check that synaptic can find a package
- In synaptic package manager, click on "Search" button
- A search window appears
- enter "2ping" and click on "Search"
- The window closes. Synaptic shows the search results
This test will check that synaptic can install a new package and show its properties
- In the search result, look for package "2ping". Click on the checkbox left of the name
- A context menu appears
- Click on "Mark for Installation"
- A window appears
- Click on "Mark"
- The window closes, the additional packages now marked in green
- Click on "Apply" button
- A window appears, showing the summary
- Click on "Apply"
- A window appears, showing the progress of installation
- After successful installation, click on "OK"
- The window closes
- In menu bar, click on "Package" and then on "Properties"
- A window opens, showing the details of the package
- Check the different properties. Then click on "Close"
- The window closes
This test will check that synaptic can re-install a new package
- In the search result, look for package "2ping". Click on the checkbox left of the name
- A context menu appears
- Click on "Mark for Reinstallation"
- The context menu closes
- Click on "Apply" button
- A window appears, showing the summary
- Click on "Apply"
- A window appears, showing the progress of installation
- After successful installation, click on "OK"
- The window closes
This test will check that synaptic can remove an installed package
- In the search result, look for package "2ping". Click on the checkbox left of the name
- A context menu appears
- Click on "Mark for Removal"
- The context menu closes. The package is now check with an orange cross
- Click on "Apply" button
- A window appears, showing the summary
- Click on "Apply"
- A window appears, showing the progress of removal.
- After successful removal, click on "OK"
- The window closes
This test will check that synaptic can completely remove an installed package
- In the search result, look for package "2ping". Click on the checkbox left of the name
- A context menu appears
- Click on "Mark for Installation"
- A window appears
- Click on "Mark"
- The window closes, the additional packages now marked in green
- Click on "Apply" button
- A window appears, showing the summary
- Click on "Apply"
- A window appears, showing the progress of installation
- After successful installation, click on "OK"
- The window closes
- In the search result, look for package "2ping". Click on the checkbox left of the name
- A context menu appears
- Click on "Mark for Complete Removal"
- The context menu closes. The package is now check with an orange cross
- Click on "Apply" button
- A window appears, showing the summary
- Click on "Apply"
- A window appears, showing the progress of removal
- After successful removal, click on "OK"
- The window closes
This test will check that synaptic can activate and deactivate a repository
- In menu bar click on "Settings", then on "Repositories"
- A window opens, showing "Software & Updates"
- Select tab "Other Software" and check the box "Canonical Partners". Then click "Close"
- The window closes
- Now click on button "Reload"
- The software list are updated
- Click on the "X" of the window to close Synaptic.
- The window closes
