This test will check that Xfce4 Power Manager can be used to display information of the battery device, change monitor working mode and to suspend the system

Right click on the battery or adapter icon placed in your desktop notification area
A context menu pops up
Select the 'Suspend' option
Laptop's monitor and other parts switch off to save power, but applications and documents still remain open
Repeat the previous steps to get Xfce4 Power Manager context menu and select the 'Power Information' option
Power Information dialog window opens, displaying the Line Power information in its main area
Point your mouse pointer to the 'Battery' icon and click it
Information of the battery device is displayed in the window main area
Point your mouse pointer to the 'Processor' icon and click it
Information about the Laptop's CPU and running system processes is displayed in the window main area
Repeat the previous steps to get Xfce4 Power Manager context menu and select the 'Mode' option
A submenu pops up
Select the 'Presentation' option
The monitor brightness dims out

This test will check that Xfce4 Power Manager can be configured by right clicking on its Notification Area Icon

Right click on the battery or adapter icon placed in your desktop notification area
A context menu pops up
Select the 'Preferences' option
Xfce Power Manager settings dialog window opens on the General Options tab
Click on the 'System tray icon:' drop-down list
A list of possible ways to set the visibility of the power manager icon in the system tray is displayed
Click on the 'When power button is pressed:' drop-down list
A list of possible actions to be performed when the laptop power button is pressed is displayed
Click on the 'When hibernate button is pressed:' drop-down list
A list of possible actions to be performed when the laptop hibernate button is pressed is displayed
Click on the 'When sleep button is pressed:' drop-down list
A list of possible actions to be performed when the laptop sleep button is pressed is displayed
Untick the 'Monitor power management control' option
The Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS) is disabled
Untick the 'Show notifications to notify about the battery state' option
Disables the notifications of changes in a battery status
Click on the 'On AC' icon
'Actions' tab is displayed
Click on the 'When laptop lid is closed:' drop-down list
A list of possible actions to be performed when the laptop power button is pressed is displayed
Point your mouse pointer to the 'Put the computer to sleep when inactive for:' slider and move it to the right of its current position
The defined time before the system idles increases
Click on the 'Monitor' tab and with the mouse pointer move right the slider of each of the monitor options
Increases the time of laptop inactivity before putting the monitor to sleep and before switching the monitor off
Point your mouse pointer to the 'Brightness' slider and move it to the right of its current position
Increases the time of laptop inactivity before reducing the screen brightness
Click on the 'On Battery' icon
'Actions' tab is displayed
Click on the 'When battery power is critical:' drop-down list
A list of possible actions to be performed when the battery power reaches a critical level is displayed
Untick the 'Prefer power savings over performance' option
The power profile when running on battery is enabled and battery will last more when running on battery power
Click on the 'Extended' icon
'Extended' tab is displayed
Change the default 'Monitor sleep mode' option by clicking either in the Standby or Suspend radio-button
DPMS sleep modes before switching off the monitor change accordingly to the selected option
Untick the 'Lock screen when going for suspend/hibernate' option
The power manager locks the screen before suspending or hibernating the computer
