Text | Test-case name: privacy/privacy-001
This test will test whether the program loads correctly.
- In the Unity menu, type "privacy" and click on the "Privacy" application.
- The "Privacy" settings window should display inside the Settings Window.
- Five tabs should be visible: "Search Results," "Recent Items," "Files," "Applications," and "Diagnostics."
- The displayed tab should be "Search Results"
- Underneath the tab notebook should be a toggle ("ON/OFF") switch with a bold label "Record Activity" in front of it
- Is the text overall displayed clearly and visibly?
- Press the top-left "X" button to close the program.
- The window should close successfully.
- If you have a "System Settings" icon on your Unity dash, click on it. If not, search in the Unity menu
- Click on the "Privacy" icon.
- The window should show privacy settings.
- In the navigation up at the top, click on "All Settings."
- The privacy settings should close (Including "Record Activity") and you should be back at the "All Settings" page.
- Open the privacy settings again (in any fashion) to continue with the testing.

This test will test whether clicking on the tabs displays the correct content.
- Click on the "Search Results" tab.
- Is it displaying correctly and clearly?
- Click on the "Recent Items" tab.
- Have the contents of the window changed? (has the notebook changed to a new page?)
- Is it displaying correctly and clearly?
- Click on the "Files" tab.
- Have the contents of the window changed? (has the notebook changed to a new page?)
- Is it displaying correctly and clearly?
- Click on the "Applications" tab.
- Have the contents of the window changed? (has the notebook changed to a new page?)
- Is it displaying correctly and clearly?
- Click on the "Diagnostics" tab.
- Have the contents of the window changed? (has the notebook changed to a new page?)
- Is it displaying correctly and clearly?
- Click on the "Search Results" tab again
- Has the "Search results" page rendered again?
Test-case name: privacy/privacy-003
This test will check the functionality the "Search Results" tab.
- Click the toggle switch to the right of "Include online search results" to
the "OFF" position.
- Click on the unity menu, and type a search; "Big Buck Bunny" for instance.
- Were online search results omitted? In other words, were the only results system application and files?
- Switch "Include online search results" to "ON." Open the unity menu. If you need to retype the search, do so.
- Were online results displayed?
Test-case name: privacy/privacy-004
This test will check the functionality of the "Recent Items" tab.
- Click on the spin button to the right of "Forget activities"
- There should be 5 categories: "The past (hour/day/week)", "All" and "Advanced."
- Select "The past (hour/day/week)" or "All" from the spinbutton.
- Nothing should display change except for the spinbutton.
- Click on "Advanced."
- Did a "From:" date field and a "To:" date field appear above the "Delete history" button?
- With the "Advanced" item still selected, choose a "From:" date and a "To:" date so that the "From:" date is greater than the "To:" Date or today's date, or both. Note that to select you need to double-click on a date.
- Did the "From:" date reset to a valid date (before today or the "To:" Date?)
- Do the same with the "To" field, but choose a date less than the "From:" date or today's date, or both.
- Did the "To:" date reset to a valid date (before today after the "From:" Date?)
- Edit and save some documents to appear in recent history.
- In the "Forget activities:" spin button, select "All". Click "Delete History"
- Did a message box pop up?
- Did the message appear normal?
- Click "Cancel"
- Open the Unity menu.
- Are your recent document still there?
- In the privacy window press "Delete history" again and this time press "Yes".
- Open the Unity menu.
- Your recent documents should be deleted.
Test-case name: privacy/privacy-005
This test will check the functionality of the "Files" tab.
- Check several combinations of the check boxes under "Don't record activity for the following type of files:"
- The items should be checked.
- Underneath the "Don't record activity in the following folders:" box should be a "+" and "-" button. Click on the "+" button
- A file dialog should appear.
- You should not be able to interact with anything in the main window while the file dialog is active
- Select a folder and press "Cancel."
- The box should be blank.
- This time click on "+" and select a folder. Click "OK"
- The folder should be added to the box with the relative path in bold.
- The absolute path should be underneath an icon.
- Click on "+" again, select the same folder you just added, and press "OK"
- The folder you just added should appear only once.
- Click on "+" again, select a different folder from the one you just added, and press "OK"
- The layout should look similar to the first folder you added.
- Press "+" again.
- Press the CTRL + H keys on your keyboard to display hidden directories (directories that begin with a ".").
- Select one of these hidden directories and press "OK"
- The hidden directory should appear in the list.
- Click on one of the folder items. Press "-"
- The folder you selected should disappear from the list.
- The next folder in the list should be selected automatically.
- Click on the other folders you added to the list. Press "-"
- The items should not be seen in the list once you delete them.
- Add four or more folders to the list to ensure they'll go past what's visible.
- A scroll bar should appear on the right. Does the list still display correctly?
- Delete all the documents you added.
Test-case name: privacy/privacy-006
This test will check the functionality of the "Applications" tab.
- Near the bottom should be a "+" button and a "-" button. Click on the "+" button.
- A pop-up should appear listing all the applications on your computer.
- You should not be able to interact with anything in the main window while the application dialog is active
- Are any applications missing? Feel free to do a quick glance of your favorite applications instead of the entire list.
- Click on the column titles to sort ascending and descending.
- Do the applications resort accordingly?
- Click on an application item in the list and press "Cancel"
- Nothing should be added to the main window's list.
- Click on the "+" button again. Select an application and press "OK"
- The pop-up window should close.
- The application should appear in the main window's list.
- Click on the "+" button again.
- The application you just added shouldn't be in the pop-up window list.
- Select another application and press "OK."
- The application you selected should be in the list and look similar to the first application you added.
- Select one of the applications listed. Click the "-" button.
- The item you selected should be removed from the list.
- The only item remaining should be automatically selected.
- Delete the last remaining item.
- The item you selected should be removed from the list.
- Add seven or more applications to the list to ensure they go past what's viewable.
- A scroll bar should appear on the right.
- Does the list still display correctly?
- Delete all the applications you just added.
Test-case name: privacy/privacy-007
This test will check the functionality of the "Diagnostics" tab.
- Look at the content of the "Diagnostics" page.
- Unless you opened the "privacy" application as root the "Send error reports to Canonical" checkbox should be disabled.
- Click on the "privacy policy" button
- Firefox (or your default web browser) should open with the privacy policy listed.
- Click the "Unlock" button on the right side of the window.
- A system dialog should appear asking for super-user password.
- Enter your password (if you have admin access).
- The "Unlock" button should now say "Lock"
- The "Send error reports to Canonical" checkbox should be enabled.
- Wait for about 20 minutes.
- The "Lock" button should say "Unlock"
- and the "Send error reports to Canonical" checkbox should be disabled.
- Click "Unlock" again, enter your password, and then click "Lock"
- The "Lock" button should say "Unlock"
- and the "Send error reports to Canonical" checkbox should be disabled.
Test-case name: privacy/privacy-008
This test will check whether the settings are saved.
- Modify all fields possible and close the window.
- Open the "Privacy" window again.
- Are the settings restored as you set them?
- Modify the fields again, close the window, and log out.
- Log back in again and open the privacy settings.
- Are the settings restored as you set them?
Test-case name: privacy/privacy-009
This test will cover any test cases not appropriate for the categories above.
- Click the "Record Activity" toggle button at the bottom of the privacy window.
- The button should toggle be switched to "OFF" if it's in the "ON" position.
- Ensure the "Record Activity" toggle button is set to "OFF"
- Observe your activity for a few minutes (e.g. chat in IRC, run some applications, create some documents)
- Unity should not be showing any new activity.
